The problem of military storage for a military member facing deployment or reassignment is one which plays out around the world daily.  Transfer orders, called dancing orders, are received, a time for departure is established, and then the military member must begin preparations.  One such preparation involves finding secure vehicle storage.

This article will discuss several options available for military storage of vehicles. We invite you to call us at (817) 999-0980 with any questions you might have about car storage.

Owning a car, as a serviceman, is a bit tricky.  You always have the option of driving to your next post and assignment, which many do, but what if your next assignment is overseas?  What do you do with your car or truck then?  And what if you decide to leave your vehicle at home for a prolonged period of time? Where do you leave it?  At your parents’ home? At a buddy’s home?  Do you leave in on-base? Or do you pay for car storage for an extended time?

The advantages of paying for vehicle storage military

The advantages of paying for vehicle storage begin and end with security.  What you are actually paying for is peace of mind.  You are forking out a certain amount of money for six months or a year, knowing that when you return your car or truck will be in good shape, that it will not have been the victim of vandalism or theft.  For many in uniform, peace of mind is worth the cost of storage.  For many others, accepting a less-secure option is easier on the wallet but offers less peace of mind.  It is a personal decision, one we have no desire to influence.  We are just tossing out some facts which are worth considering.

Other car storage options

Leaving your car at home, with your parents, or with a buddy, these are definitely less-expensive. They also carry risk of vandalism and/or theft.  There is no way your parents can assure you that your car is safe, not even locked in the family garage.  There is also no way your buddy will pay attention to the welfare of your car 24/7, 365.  Sadly,  not even leaving your vehicle on-post is totally secure.  Most storage areas on post are outdoor storage areas with lax protection.

Which leaves you with car storage or mini storage!

A mini storage unit can be had for about $60 per month. For a six month deployment that will cost you about $360 for secure vehicle storage.  It may or may not be climate controlled car storage.

It will definitely be more secure than your buddy’s place.

And a car storage facility will cost you about $250 per month, for six months, or $1500 for a six month deployment, minus military discounts. This is an expensive option for sure, one which probably will only be considered if you are looking for collector car storage or antique auto storage.
