What do you want in vehicle storage?

The number one answer, and second place is very distant, is security.  People who want truck storage want secure vehicle storage. They want to know that their truck or car will be safe for the six months or a year that they will be gone, safe from vandalism and safe from theft.  Thus they are looking for a gated storage facility, some place which required a passkey to enter, and preferably some place which has a protective fence or is an indoor enclosure.  Please note that not all military bases have such long-term parking. Some simply have an empty lot designated as military parking, and the security there is no different than the security throughout the base.

Some will say “so what?  A military base is pretty secure, right?”  And it would be hard to argue with that assessment.  A very small percentage of vehicles are vandalized on, or stolen from, a military base, so why be concerned  with looking for secure vehicle storage military when it exists on the base?

There are two factors we haven’t mentioned.  One is the fact that often, on military bases, the military parking lot is at capacity, and there is no more room for more parking. Here in the Fort Worth area, where temperatures during the summer hover around one-hundred degrees daily, the main concern for vehicle owners facing long term storage is oxidation.  Oxidation is a chemical reaction which can ruin most surfaces of your car or truck in a matter of a handful of months. The only way to avoid oxidation from happening is to find climate controlled car storage.  The other concerns, obviously, are windstorms, tornados, hurricanes, sleet, snow, hail, and on and on and on.  You will  find no protection from those weather-related problems on a military base, pure and simple. They are not prepared to promise that kind of security for military personnel facing deployment,.

All of which means you will have to consider finding long term vehicle storage for your truck off-base.  Never fear; in all cities of any decent size, finding long term vehicle storage which is also secure vehicle storage is not difficult.  You will have to pay for it, but military discounts, which are almost always offered, will take the sting out of those payments and allow you to rest assured your truck is protected while you are away.
