We had that question asked of us recently: why is climate controlled car storage so important?
We will attempt to explain it to you. If, after reading this, you have more questions, give us a call at (817) 999-0980. We are Fort Worth Car Storage, and we know climate control.
Consider this . . .
Have you ever taken a drive out in the country and come across an old, abandoned car in a field, or in someone’s backyard? Most likely it is a rusty old heap in serious need of a paint job, correct? There is, most likely, more rust on that old car than there is paint.
Or remember back to times out in the summer sun, perhaps as a child, running around all summer, playing with friends, always in your favorite summer shirt or dress . . . but by the end of that summer, your favorite shirt, or dress, is faded and not nearly as vibrant in color as it once was.
Welcome to the world of oxidation, and welcome to the Number One reason why you need climate controlled storage for long-term auto storage.
What is oxidation?
Without getting too scientific on you, oxidation is the moving about of electrons, caused by extreme heat, and that moving about will alter the appearance of most surfaces left out in the brutal summer sun. Rust is oxidation! Faded colors are oxidation. It happens most often to wood, cloth, leather, and metal surfaces. In other words, it happens to most of the surfaces on your car.
Another experiment . . .
Leave a computer out in the sun. We don’t really suggest you do this, but imagine with us for a moment. If you were to do this, after a few weeks your computer would either stop working, or it would stop working properly. Oxidation also affects electronics, which means it will greatly affect the operating systems of your car.
So yes, if that auto of yours is important, or valuable, or both, you really should consider climate controlled car storage, especially if you are considering long-term auto storage.
What does it cost?
At Fort Worth Car Storage, you can count on paying an extra one-hundred dollars per month for climate control, and that is pretty average for the industry. You might pay a bit less at some mini storage facility, but you get less security in those places, so it is a matter of preference. The decision you must make, then, is to decide if that extra one-hundred per month is worth it to avoid damage to the surfaces of your vehicle, and damage to your operating systems. Most people will say yes, it is most definitely worth it.
We are Fort Worth Car Storage, serving the Fort Worth area for over thirty year, and locally owned and operated.
Give us a call and we will answer any questions you might have about indoor auto storage. We are a collector car storage facility . . .
Which means we have experience taking care of some rather expensive vehicles . . . and we can take care of yours as well.
